Understanding Water Intake

Staying properly hydrated is essential for your health. This calculator provides a general recommendation for daily water intake based on your weight and activity level.

Why It's a Guideline

Individual water needs can vary greatly depending on factors like climate, health conditions, and diet. The "8 glasses a day" rule is a common suggestion, but it may not be right for everyone.

Listen to Your Body

The best indicator of your hydration status is thirst. It's also helpful to pay attention to the color of your urine; pale yellow usually indicates good hydration. Use this calculator as a starting point, and adjust based on how you feel.

Logic & Formulas

The calculation is a two-step process:

  1. Calculate Base Intake: A baseline daily intake in milliliters (ml) is estimated based on weight. A common guideline is 33 ml of water per kilogram of body weight.

Base Intake (ml) = Weight (kg) * 33

  2. Adjust for Activity: The base intake is then multiplied by an activity factor to account for water lost through exercise.

Final Intake = Base Intake * Activity Multiplier

    • Sedentary: x 1.0
    • Light: x 1.2
    • Moderate: x 1.4
    • Active: x 1.6

The final result is shown in both liters and fluid ounces for convenience.
