Cheapest Petrol & Diesel Along Your Route

Find the cheapest fuel for your drive — not just at home or at work, but anywhere along your route. Powered by official UK fuel-price data, updated every 30 minutes.

How this works

UK fuel prices vary a lot — sometimes 10-15p per litre between two stations a couple of miles apart. If you have a regular drive, you can save real money by knowing the cheapest option along the way rather than just defaulting to the petrol station near home.

The data

In 2024 the UK Competition and Markets Authority recommended a statutory open-data scheme for fuel prices. From 2025 it's in force — every major retailer must publish current forecourt prices in a standardised feed. We pull those feeds every 30 minutes and store them in a UK-only postcode-indexed database.

Routing

Your two postcodes get converted to coordinates using postcodes.io (a free, UK-government-backed lookup). The driving route between them comes from OpenRouteService, an open-data routing engine. We then find every station within your chosen distance of the route and rank them by price.

Filters explained

  • Fuel type: standard unleaded (E10) is the default. Premium fuels are pricier and sold by fewer retailers.
  • Miles off route: how far you're willing to detour. 1 mile catches stations right on the route; 5-10 miles is for finding bigger savings further afield.
  • Retailers: pick specific brands if you collect Clubcard / Nectar points or only fill at one chain. Default is "all".

What we don't cover

Costco fuel (members-only, not in the scheme), independents not signed up to publish their prices, and a handful of retailers (Tesco, BP, Morrisons) we're still working on. The currently-covered retailers account for roughly 80% of UK forecourts.

UK fuel prices by city

Quick context on price variation in major UK cities. The cheapest forecourt for a Londoner's commute is rarely in central London — same goes for every other city. Use the tool above with your real start and destination postcodes.

Cheapest fuel near London

High variation — central London supermarket forecourts vs. M25 motorway services can differ by 12-15p per litre. Compare prices for your full commute, not just near home.

Cheapest fuel near Manchester

Asda, Sainsbury's, MFG and Esso all have multiple sites in and around Manchester. Tip: prices on the M60 outer ring are often a few pence cheaper than central forecourts.

Cheapest fuel near Birmingham

M6 and M5 corridor stations tend to undercut central Birmingham forecourts. If you're commuting in from Solihull or Walsall, your route probably passes a cheaper option.

Cheapest fuel near Leeds

Bradford-Leeds corridor has some of the cheapest fuel in West Yorkshire. Asda Pudsey and Sainsbury's Colton frequently appear at the top of "cheapest E10" lists.

Cheapest fuel near Glasgow

Asda and MFG dominate around the M8. Cheapest options often sit just off the motorway rather than in city-centre postcodes.

Cheapest fuel near Bristol

Sainsbury's, Asda and Esso compete tightly around the M32 and M5 junctions. If you commute in from the Mendips, your route likely passes 3-4 viable cheaper alternatives.

Frequently asked questions

Where does this price data come from?

From the official UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) fuel price scheme. Since 2025, every major UK fuel retailer is required to publish their forecourt prices in a standardised public feed. We pull these feeds every 30 minutes — Asda, Sainsbury's, Shell, Esso, Motor Fuel Group, Moto, Rontec, Ascona, JET. Tesco, BP and Morrisons are coming soon.

Why do I have to enter postcodes?

Postcodes are precise and free to look up. To search by place name we'd need a paid geocoding service. Postcodes are zero-cost, accurate, and let us keep this tool genuinely free with no signups.

How fresh are the prices?

Most retailers update their feeds at least daily; supermarkets often hourly. We pull every 30 minutes. Stations whose prices haven't been updated in over a week are flagged with an "Old price" badge — treat those as approximate.

Why isn't Costco listed?

Costco fuel is members-only and they don't publish prices via the CMA scheme. Costco usually undercuts nearby supermarkets by 5-10p per litre — if you have a route past one, factor that in mentally.

What's the difference between standard and premium fuel?

Standard unleaded (E10) is the regular petrol most cars run on. Premium unleaded (E5) is higher-octane, sold at most retailers but not Asda. Standard diesel (B7) is regular diesel, available everywhere. Premium diesel (Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate, Esso Synergy Supreme+) costs more and is sold by the majors only — not supermarkets.

Is the "miles off route" exact?

For the top results we calculate the actual one-way driving distance by road from the nearest point on your route to the petrol station. Where shown as "X.X mi", that's the real driving distance off your route. If shown as "~X.X mi", that's the straight-line shortest distance to the route — the real road distance will be a bit longer.
