Understanding Currency Exchange

Exchange rates fluctuate constantly. This calculator provides an estimate based on placeholder data, and the actual rate you receive from a bank or currency exchange service may differ.

Mid-Market Rate

The rates shown here are typically "mid-market" rates, which is the midpoint between the buy and sell prices of two currencies. This is the "real" rate, but it's not usually available to consumers.

Fees and Spreads

When you exchange money, services apply a "spread" (a margin on the exchange rate) and may also charge a fee. This is how they make a profit. Always check the final amount you will receive.

Logic & Formulas

This calculator uses a set of placeholder exchange rates, all relative to the US Dollar (USD), for demonstration purposes. The conversion is a two-step process:

  1. Convert to Base Currency (USD): The initial amount is converted to USD by dividing it by the "from" currency's rate.

    Amount in USD = Amount / Rate_From

  2. Convert to Target Currency: The USD amount is then converted to the "to" currency by multiplying it by the target currency's rate.

Final Amount = Amount in USD * Rate_To

This ensures a consistent conversion path between any two currencies in the system.
